Trade Day in Review

This week will be a special week on the blog with a couple more posts than usual. Monday at 3 p.m. was the NHL trade deadline and the Caps were certainly busy this year. Here’s a breakdown of the team’s acquisitions and losses:

CAPITALS ACQUIRE: Marco Sturm, LW, off waivers LA KINGS ACQUIRE: Nothing. The Caps took Sturm off waivers which means LA got nothing in return
CAPITALS ACQUIRE: Dennis Wideman, D FLORIDA PANTHERS ACQUIRE: Jake Hauswirth (prospect), 2011 third round draft pick
CAPITALS ACQUIRE: Jason Arnott, C NEW JERSEY ACQUIRED: David Steckel and 2012 second round pick

Personally, I think these are great acquisitions and, while it’s sad to see Steckel go, it looks like these additions will be able to greatly help the team in the long run. Feel free to comment on the trades below.

Also, be sure to check out the analysis on these players from the Washington Post’s Capitals Insider blog, including General Manager George McPhee‘s reaction, and stats compiled by Russian Machine Never Breaks.
